Question about tax in New York City?
I moved to NYC two years ago. I am living in Queens now, and decide to move out of NYC, since I do not wanna to pay the city tax anymore. After tax, it is very hard for me to save some money. Anyone can suggest a place for me? It is better close to city, I am thinking about long island or NJ.
If living in Long Island, do I need to pay any other tax besides federal tax and state tax? Which part of Long Island is better for living? Close to NYC(I work in city) and good school zone(I have a 10 years old child). How much is the property tax? I want to buy a small house, the total budget is about 300k, and I can pay 80k for down payment, is it possible in a long island community closing to city.
If living in NJ, how about the property tax there? I wanna buy a small house too. Any place good for living? Same considerations: closing to NYC, safe community, good school zone.
Thanks a lot.
LI’s taxes are even higher! Your best bet is to go Upstate NY where you don’t have city taxes. Just beware, with Long Island and Upstate, they get the absolutely most harshest Winters ever.
